What kind of customer information do we have, and where did we get it?

Much of the customer information we collect comes directly from you when you interact with our website, submit information via email or online forms, interact with telephone or online support staff or respond to surveys.

Other health related information is provided as part of your employer benefits package in accordance with HIPAA legal requirements and shared under a Business Associate Agreement in order to deliver the supplemental voluntary insurance benefits that you have elected from your carrier (including but not limited to supplemental Hospital Indemnity coverage, supplemental Accident and supplemental Critical Illness coverage).   VB Scout also receives information from your Voluntary Benefits administrator on your policy enrollment status.

How is this information used?

VB Scout uses healthcare claims data information to identify instances when you or an enrolled family may have had care that qualifies you to receive a benefit and then we notify the policy holder of the potential benefit via email or US post and provide information on how to file a claim with your carrier.  At any time, you may opt out of these notifications by clicking on the link in the communication or contacting VB Scout at benefits@vbscout.com.

Site utilization data is used to improve site navigation and personalize the user experience.  Personal information provided to VB Scout via email submission, website form or interaction with telephone or online support is used to support member questions related to member communications or notifications.

We may also provide limited information about you to third parties without your permission when necessary or appropriate to service an insurance policy or to address claims submitted under a policy issued by your voluntary benefits carrier.  For example, when your Voluntary Benefits carrier is a co-signatory with VB Scout and your employer on the HIPAA Business Associate Agreement, then VB Scout may provide information back to the Voluntary Benefit carrier to allow your claim to be verified and paid.

In addition, we may, as permitted by law, provide information about you without your permission to certain persons or organizations, such as your agent or broker, insurance support organizations, and / or other insurance companies in order to perform their function in regard to an insurance transaction involving you (i.e. a claim) or regulatory and law enforcement authorities.

What are your options regarding collection, use, and distribution of your information?

Any information you submit to us via email, our website’s on-line forms or interacting with member service agents is done so on a voluntary basis.
